Female genital or venereal warts are also known as Condylomata Acuminata. This is one form of a Sexually Transmitted Disease that may also be acquired through contact to an infected mucous membrane. However, it may also be congenitally acquired if the mother is positive for having genital warts. The incubation period, or the time lapsed between the exposure to the organism until the signs are first apparent, is three months. 
Initially, female genital warts may appear as a single lesion on the perineum. It may also be in a cauliflower-like cluster in the vagina. Sometimes, female may also have an abnormal vaginal discharge or even experience bleeding after a sexual intercourse. Other symptoms to consider are burning and itching sensations in the genital area.
Genital warts on females are quite common. Women who have had a history of having the disease are much prone to acquiring genital warts again. Before prompt treatment, proper diagnosis must first be met. One of the diagnostic tests for genital warts is through direct examination. Also, to determine its extent, one may opt to undergo a biopsy. The lesions that are atypical, pigmented and persistent should be examined closely.
Females must be wary that there is a strong association with incidence of genital dysplasia and cervical carcinoma. Nevertheless, treatments for genital warts are available. Women may undergo a curettage, which is the removal of the grown lesions in the vagina. Physicians may prescribe the use of Keratolytic Agents. Females affected with genital warts must avoid sexual contact until the lesions are healed. Contacts must be notified to prevent further transmission of the disease.
